One of the first questions that we hear when someone is looking into spray tanning, and ultimately, spray tan certification and training, is how much does it cost? Well, as with most questions…it depends.
There are several factors that we have to consider when people are asking us this particular question because there are a few different certification options available. We will highlight each of those below with some details, including the pros and cons of each.
In the end, we hope this helps you make the best decision for you and your sunless tanning journey.
The three main types of spray tan training programs available are:
- In-person training – this includes either one-on-one or group training depending on the actual spray tan training program you decide to sign up for.
- Virtual training – this is similar to the in-person training above except the spray tan training is done virtually using a platform like Zoom or Google Meet to conduct the training.
- Online – this method is similar to any other online course you’ve taken with pre-recorded videos and training to walk you through the process.
In-Person Training
Most people prefer this method because spray tanning is a hands-on craft that takes practice to get right. Not only that, but each person has a unique method they adapt to so having someone with you hands-on can help you get the right “feel” for your craft while also teaching you what needs to be done throughout the process.
1-on-1 Training
As mentioned earlier, there are a couple of options for in-person training and certification. The most preferred version, typically, is 1-on-1 training. We offer spray tan certification courses in Las Vegas, NV, with other options for people to fly in from out of town, for us to come to you, or even our virtual training (more on this later).
With a 1-on-1 training program, the trainer will usually be able to spend more time with you, making sure you have a full understanding of the entire spray tan process. In addition, the trainer should also spend a significant amount of time talking to you about the business side of spray tanning. After all, that is extremely important and will ultimately help you run a more successful business.
Costs: $1,000+ – We aren’t able to say for sure how much every spray tan training and certification program costs, because we haven’t seen all of this information. However, over our years in the industry, we can say that you will be looking to spend at least $1,000 for in-person training. Make sure you do your due diligence to make sure the training program you choose is right for you!
Virtual/Online Training
Virtual Training
One of the best, and most affordable options for training and certification is via a virtual spray tan certification program. The benefit of this type of training is that it is more affordable than in-person training, which we’ve already covered above, and also more personal than a general online training program.
Since the trainer will be working with you 1-on-1, albeit virtually, you will still be able to ask any and all questions that you may have to make sure you feel confident in your spray tanning abilities.
Costs: $500+ – Again, we aren’t able to know the pricing structure for all virtual certification programs, but through our research we found most of them costs at least $500 since this requires more time for the trainer versus a standard online training program.
Online Training
The most affordable, but least hands-on training, is online training. This is a standard online training course which would be delivered through prerecorded videos and is typically hosted on a learning management system that allows you to complete the training at your own pace.
With that said, some training courses are either delivered in cohorts, meaning a handful of students sign up at once and progress through the training together. For the most part, we found that the online training options were self-paced classes that you could sign up for online and gain access to immediately.
Costs: $100+ – Pricing range for online courses depending on the complexity of the information contained in the training and, typically, the experience of the trainer. The more experienced, the more expensive in most cases. Also, make sure the training includes the spray tan process on multiple models so that you can see the difference in the technique.
In Conclusion
While there is no right or wrong way to receive your certification, there is certainly a “better way” for you to become a certified spray tan artist. Depending on the type of learner you are can make a big difference in which option we would suggest for you to sign up for.
